These workers! children, whe came from communities in
Tennessec, Kentucky, Gecrgia and Arkansas, returned to their homes
with a rich experience in cooperative living. They understand some
of the fundamentals cf unionism, know hew to produce short, simple
skits, and have learned to sing the labor songs familiar to union
people."
"WORK CaP IS IN SESSION
Werks Camps for America, now a division cf the International
Student Service, is spenscring a work camp at Highlander again this
Summer. The general purpese cf Work Camps for America is;
"To provide young men and women with an opportunity to do useful
work and to study social issues from persenal experience, to encourage
a deeper individual concern for the general welfare to the nation,
to emlist their wholehcarted support fcr a democracy responsive to
the needs of its citizens, to promote mutual understanding among
diverse economic, religious, and sccial groups, and to aid youth
in the disccvery cf a porsonsi philosophy and a sccial idealism
which will help tc carry them through the stcrmy pericc ahead."
The campers, age 18 to 24, are drawn from all religions, economic
and social groups, the majority coming from the ranks of college
students."

industrial cirls' summer sessien, held et Camp Merrie Weod, Sapphire,
N. C.
JipeDombrewski made a speaking trip thrvcugh New Englani during
April. “He appeared before the Greenficld, Miss., Ccntral Laber
Union at its annual banquet, and speko to students ct Lount Holyoke,
Smith, and Amherst College.
Lyles Horton was onc cf the speakers at the ecnference of
Scuthern Mountain Werkers which met in Knexville this spring.

on Schocl's property. It was purchased for the use cf the schcol by
Dr. Lillian %. Jchnson, doncr cf the original site.
The Hichlandgr personnel has been expanded by the addition of
two people. JoupAayne, whe trained in nursery school work at
Sarah Lawrence College, has taken charge of the Summerfield Nursery
Schocl. Harry Lasker came to Highlander aftcr his reecnt graduation fron
the University cf Nerth Carclina.
