2. SULER TERM
The six wevks' summer session, August 1&th-Septenber 26th,
was attended by sixtcon students from sevdn stetes and one for-
vign country. Louisiana led the list with fivo students, Tenn-
essee four, District of Columbia two, and‘one wach from Okla-
homa, Toxas, Illinois and New York.
Two students were mombors of tho American Fodcration of
Hosiery Workers, the Wational igritime Union, United Automo-
bile Workurs, and the United Construction Workers; one student
represented the following: United Sugar Workcrs, Amverican Nows-
paper Guild, United Fedcorel] wor.ors, Workers Alliance, Tele-
gréphers, amvurican Student Union. Threc students wore unattech-
ed Seven students hild the following offiecs: prosident,
vic rr sident, corresponding scerctary, rvcording secrctary,
troaesurcr, Scervtaryvetrcasurcr, business tgent. another stu-
dent was & committccman, Since lezeving school one student has
been elected financial secretary of his local union and pres-
ident of the Industrial Union Council, end another student has

Five weekend conferences were attended by & totul of one-
hundred-fiftyv-six represertutives, with six AF of L, three inde-
pindest, and seventeen CIO unions reoresented. Conference lead-
ers were Rich urd Deverell, educutional director, United Auto
Worters; Allen uicweil, southern director, wine, will ond Smelter
WVorzers Union; Pred Peiper, regioual director of the CIO, New
Orleinc,; Joe Dobbs, chi.irman of the orgunizing committee, Chote
tanooze Central L-bor Union; Yelverton Cowherd, regionel CIO
director, Birmingham; alton Lewrence, southern representative,
Leber's HonePartiscan Leezue; and Bethel Judd, of the United
alitomobile Workecrse
Special conferences were conductcd for the recently organ-
ized Ford loerl ut Memphis, textile worxers, and an Axe Handle
Workers Industrial Union in the neighboring county.
Fred Pelper, regional CIO director, New Orlenns, and Allen
eNcil, southern representative of IUML2SW, conducted a woek-
cr? conference on workers’ vducation. For the five New Orleans
