numerous newspaper clippings from the Chattanooga and Nashville papers which.
iilicate that the school was to be investigated by the Dies Committee, how.
ever, there is no information in the file which would indicate the results oe
of the Dies Committee's investigation if, in fact, one Was made mo. oak.
: As a result of the cohsolidating of all these reports
into the hands of the Grundy County Crusaders, together with material which moe
was collected by them, there was a proposed march on the Highlander Folk
School by the Crusaders at which time it was planned that the members of”
the faculty be forcibly ..ejected from the county. On November 13, 190, a
march of the Highlander Folk School was averted by holding a meeting of the
representatives of the Grundy County Crusaders and members of the faculty
in a session held at Sewanee University. At this tine the Grundy County he .
Crusaders hurled accusations at the Highlander Folk School, stating that a arn

The Grundy County Crusaders, however, were unable to produce any evidence _

Acent QB dated February 26, 1942, at Atlanta, Georgia, it is stated |
that WEST attended the Berry School at Rome, Georgia, and quit because he was
not in sympathy with the school system. He later returned and endeavored to
organize the students of the school in a strike because the school charged
tuition and received help from HENRY FORD, a capitalist.
