The December 17, 1961 issue of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, a local daily newspaper published at Knoxville, Tennessee, contained an article reflecting that on December 16, 1961, assets of Highlander Folk School, Monteagle, Tennessee, were auctioned by the State of Tennessee under a court decree after the school was convicted of — violating three Tennessee laws and failed in appeals to the State and U.
