WM LE informed that they seemed to be going out in the exhaust stream and further that in his opinion, Diesel engines give off sparks in the exhaust stream when they have beon raced and alse that he is of the opinion that the aft motors of the Hindenburg were still in reverse at the time of the blast and fire. He also stated that in his opinion if a motor was in reverse, sparks from the exhaust stream would be thrown forward, rether than backward. He also stated, in response to a question, that he is of the opinion that to shift the oams in the transmission of the Diesel engines being utilized by the Hindenburg, it is necessary that the main crankshaft or screw had to be stopped from her forward rotating motion before she could be thrown into the reverse motion. ——o fin Heavy 13 1937, Frank We Enozx, airil enrinser Senior Grade we ay we eee 7, wep eee vee eww pe ON we wes who performs sertain duties at “the Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, New Jersey, gave testimony before the Board for the purpose of laying foundation for the introduction into svidence of charte showing the exact position of the wreck- age of the Hindenburg and its relation to the other physical structures on the reservation at Lakehurst. Knox stated that the diagram was based on tangent moasurements and that they were exact to within six inches.
