Memo R, p.23 (22) SI 100~243909-1 Encl.pMemo G, p.28 (22) - The following references in the file captioned "Communist Infiltration of the American Veterans Committee" (AVC) contain information pertaining to the activities of Howard Zinn, an AVC official, from November, 1942 to 11/29/48 in NYC. Zinn was Vice > chairman of the Brooklyn chapter and the Kings County Committee, and chairman of the Gung Ho Chapter of the AVC. Zinn was the author of an article entitled "Self Supporting Public Housing - Plan fo Ease The Housing Crisis in New York - Now." Also set forth were Zinn's CP affiliations. (u) REFERENCE SEARCH SLIP PAGE NUMBER 100-339008-109 p.7 -166 p.13 -, -226 p.11,12 The following references in the main file of Herbert Yanowitz set out Yanowitz's association with Howard Zinn during his employment with the Lerner Shops of America, 354 Ath Avenue, NYC, during the summer of 1944 to September of 1950. Yanowitz met Zinn at the Lerners Shop but was never acquainted with him socially. During the course of group conversations while working, Zinn's position in political discussions was radical and he agreed with the CP lines.
