On the afternoon of Septenber <9, 1937, while procecding om Mt. Vernon to Quantico, Virginia, with several photographers oN tnd representatives of the press, Mr. Roger\ewthorne of the a Associated Press noticed an AP photogransher at the point where the \ roud from Mt. Vernon intersects with the Richmond Highway. Ir view s of the fact that, Ur. Hawthorne had instructed a photographer to eccompary him to Quantice, he got out of the car and went back to ™ talk with him, and upon iis return to the car advised that the local editor of the AP, a photographer, and other indivicuals had secured a Virginis State Trooper to stop the car of Nr. Justice Hugo{Bleck which was Supposed to pass there at eny tine en route _ from Norfolk to Washingtor.. It wer pletned to have the officer stop Mr. Justice Black's car, whereupon the editer would attemnt to interview him and the photographer would photograph hin.
