Cuetic, at Bowden's urging, contacts Jordan and complains because Jordan's editor, Harry Ranier had fired an editorial writer on the magaztne named Crevko who has been accused by Ranier of being a Comnunist. At dinner on a later date at Jordan's home, Bowden and Cvetic tneite the enmity of Jordan's wife who believes he is being duped by the Communistse Bowden has microphones in Jordan's office and hears fanter, the editor, complain about the policy of the magazine, which ts slanted more and more in favor of the Communists. ae At a Party meeting Bowden reports on the success of the jn "American Liberty Fund" and orders Cuetic to kill Ronier, the editor. . Quetic enlists the aid of the FBI. That night Ranier accompanies — Cuetic tn the latter's car as they presumably proceed to Jordan's homee They are, by prearrangement, intercepted by the FBI. Cvetic reports back to Bowden and tells him that he, Cuetic, has planted false Communist credentials cards in fanier's desk and then notified the FBI, who now have Ranter in custody. The scene switches to Jordan's home where he expresses complete shock at the news about Ranier. Jordan agrees, over his wife's vigorous objections, to turn over the job of running his magazine to Bowden and Cuetice The last scene is in the Press room of the magazine as Jordan rushes in on Bowden and Cuetic, denounces them and relates tk his wife has finally opened his eyes. o Wh oe.
