To; es FBI Oo | DATE: FROM 3 Os » Salt Lake City (80-195) SUBJECT: IO PROGRAM . - 'I WAS A COMMUNIST FOR THE FBI" On 7/17/53: at 12:00 Midnight a radio announcer on Station Provo, Utah, was overheard describing feature programs for the coming weé? and in calling attention tq,the above program he made a statement to the effect that the program was based on material from the official files of the SA on my instructions contacted the Manager © R Station KOVO and ascertained that the announcer on that occasion was who advised that he might have made a statement to the . effect that the program was baséd on material from the files of the FBI; that he knew the program was not actually based on FBI files and that any misstate— ment was made through carelessness. He advised that he regretted the mis- statement that he had made and in the future would do no "ad libbing" concerning this program but would use records or disks furnished by the producers of the program. He stated that while in the U. S. Marine Corps Guring World War II he had spent many months at Quantico and had a great respect for the FBI and would not intentionally make any incorrect statement concerning the Bureau. RD 0, advised that he had instructed QB 105 60 do any further "ad libbine" concerning the program. From the way the announcement was made there could be no question but that anyone hearing it would receive the definite impression that the program was prepared from the official files of the Bureau. I do not believe that vill repeat the mistake, and it is indicated that it was a careless mistake.
