Time-8:35 P.M.
Mr. Hoover called from New Irk City and stated that on the
first page of the Washington Evening Star there appeared an
article, entitled "Shearer MNnass Wine,‘ Senstors as Red". Mr, Hoover
further stated that Shearer is the man who testifled before the
Senate Committee on Ammmition; that Shearer stated that the Depart—
~-- ment of Justice has a list of the Senators who are "Red"; that also
the Department of Justice tried to frame him in 1929. Mr. Hoover
further stated that the same story also appears in the Times. Mr.
Hoover instructed Mr. Quinn to have Mr. Tamm read the story in both
the Washington Evening Star and the Washington Times,’ and give out
from our files a summary on Shearer; that if a summary is not already
prepared, a complete summary should be prepared on Shearer; that
Shearer was investigated at the time of the Disarmagent Conference,
and at that time quite a long report was made on Shearer
ay Mr. Hoover also instructed Mr. Quinn to have Mr. Tamm find
out whether the gums from Oklahoma have arrived, the two guns in the
Va Kennaner Case.
