BoaRo OF PuBiic UTILITY
COMMISSIONERS
STATE OF NEw JERSEY
EmMETT T. DREW
SECRETARY
TRENTON, N. GU.
July 9, 1942,
Dear Mr. Hoover:
It was a source of great personal satisfaction
to read that Congress is to vote you a Medal of Honor for your
exceptional task of breaking the German sebotage case in Florids
em Long Island.
4s a former Agent of the Department of Justice,
I know, of my own knowledge, that your work has never received
the commendations to which you were long ago entitled. In fact,
I recall that you have been under personal atteck and critician
from the demogogic members on Capitol Hill, but through it all you _
weathered these storms. DMREIKE pico
When I recall the last war and the activities of
the old Bureau of Investigation, and compare it with the fine organ-
ization you have today, it is little wonder that so mich was accam
plished with so little as in 1918, when you were active in this work.
Here in New Jersey with but a handful of men, you were then able to
produce results.
4s an old associate, I am happy to know that you are
to be honored, but I know that in accepting this honor you will be
receiving it for all of your agents, and those who have contributed
down through the years to the fine accomplishments of the Departuent
of Justice.
Please accept mg sincere congratulations and to wish
for you in the days to come all the success and happiness which should —
be yours. - « 7

Federal Bureau of Investigation, j oe pe ue
