And Where They Came From
Joun Avams—Quincy, Mass., (1730-1826 )
“This home was purchased by John Adams, second President of
the United States, aud was bequeathed ta his son, John Quincy
Adams, sixth President of the United States. ‘The stone is from
the brook which bounds the place, where the West Point cadets
bathed when they visited the Adams.
Joun Quincy Apams—Quincy, Mass., (1 767-1848 )
Same as above.
Janz Appams—Hull House, Chicago, IIl., (1860-1036 )
The stone is a part of Tull House. It was engraved there for
the "Walk of Fame" and presented to Rollins by Misa Addams,
an honorary aluinna of the College.
Louis Agaastz—Nahant, Maas., (1807-1873 )
The picturesque home still contains pictures and some furniture
dating from the days of Agassiz, the great naturalist,
Acexanven Adassiz—Cambridge, Mass., (1848-1010)
Agassiz Hall js erected on the spot where his house was situated,
now the campus of Radcliffe College. The stone was found about
two hundred feet from the Hall. Naturalist and son of Louis
Agassiz,
Louisa . Avcorr—Concord, Mass., (1832-1888 3
The¥ptone is from the home of the author of “Little Women"
af ras found to the right of the front door and under the

The old farm-house on a side street, where some of his novels
were written, ie now a shrine, The stone came from under the
back kitchen doorstep,
Etnan Atten—Fort Ticondcroga, N, Y., (1737-1780 )
Ethan Allen captured the Fort from the Enpiish “in the name
of the great Jehovah and the Continental Congress.” The stone
is from the “bullet-proof wall jnside the Fort,

Hans Curtin AnnEnson—Odense, Denmark, (1405-1875)
The stone from the birthplace of Wans Christian Anderson was
a gift to Rollins College from the City of Gudense, Denmark, and
was sent through the good offices of Mrs. Ruth Bryan Owen,
former U.S. Minister to Denmark, and an honorary alumna of
Fra ANaELico—Florence, Italy, (1387-1455)
Tn the same Monastery where Savonarola had his cell were the
cells of Fra Angelico and Fra Rartolommes, the twa great Flor-
entine religious painter monks, The stone was takea from the
courtyard of the San Marco Monantery.
Susan B. AnTuony—Rochester, N. Y.,, (1820-1906 )
The stone came from her home jn Rochester where Susan B.
Anthony the great woman suffragist died.

This stone comes from the permanent residence of Count Apponyi

this house, a favorite musing place of the late Count.

This marble slab was obtained and inscribed jn the vicinity of
the Lyceum where it may have been seen if not trodden upon by
Aristotle. The Lyceum was possibly situated near the present
American School of Classical Studies, and famous asx the school
founded by Aristotle in imitation of his master's academy,
