JACK SOBLE interviewed a.m., 4/18/57. SOBLE stated that in 1950 in Vienna he and MYRA SOBLE made. social visit to home of PAUL and ALICE LOW-BEER. Present at LOW-BEER's home were BEATRICE and HENRY SPITZ. SOBLE stated that 4 during evening BEATRICE SPITZ asked SOBLE what he was doing Dae ofr Moviets but SOBLE claimed he.did not reply to this 2 question and could not explain how BEATRICE knew he was work- ing as a Soviet agent. However, SOBLE admits that BEATRICE knew he was working as Soviet agent. SPITZES stated to SOBLE that they had left U.S. hastily because they were Communists and feared difficulty because of HENRY SPITZ's government job. SOBLE denied that SPITZES' hasty departure from U.S. may have been connected with disclosures re KLAUS FUCHS or HARRY GOLD. SOBLE claims he does not know whether SPITZES acted for Soviets in U.S. During visit, BEATRICE SPITZ wanted to give SOBLE photographs taken at Albuquerque. SOBLE claimed photographs were outdoor scenes showing no buildings but claimed no © recollection as to what they did portray. SOBLE, when pressed on this point could nota dequately explain significance of photographs or why SPITZ desired them to be tfansferred to Soviets. SOBEE recalled that he had met SPITZES in NY in 1940 when introduced by ROBERT SOBLE but claims he had not met LOW-BEERs prior to Vienna meeting. Said MYRA had met LOW-BEERS in U.S. SPITZES admitted to SOBLE they were CP members in U.S. in “ustrian Division. One day following visit to LOW-BEERS, PETROV and Soviets.
