Reference is made to Bureau letter to Washington Field Office dated
February 3, 1939, which directs that an investigation be made on
ABRAHAM CEORGE SILVERMAN, who has been prominently mentioned by
WHITTAKER CHAMBERS in connection with the entitled matter. Partievlar
attention is directed to the fact that according to CHAMBERS during
the latter part of December, 1946, or the first part of January, 1947,
three Persian rugs were shipped to SILVERKAN fram Rew York City. ;
Thereafter, SILVERMAN delivered one rug to the late HARRY DEXTER MITTE ’
and, subsequently, delivered a second rug to ALGER HISS at a prearrang=
ed meeting on the outskirts of Washington im the vicinity of Maryland
University. CHAMBERS advised that SILVERMAN vat the rug in his ear and
drove to the prearranged meeting place and that he, CFAMBERS, accompani-
ed by ALGER HISS in the latter's automobile, mes SILVERUAN where the
transfer of the rug from SILVERMAN's car to HISS' car was madee
SILVERMAN lived in Apartment #311, 2325 15th Street, Washington, D. C.,
from 1939 to 1947. VIVIAN S. BROKE, now Mire. W. Le DAVIES, U1
Howard Avenue, Pottsville, Pennsylvania, lived in Apartment #312 in 1
- 1943. Philadelphia is requested to interview her regarding particwlars | |
of the rug, which was in SILVERMAN's apartment at the time, with an i!
