SYNOPSIS : JOSEPHINE FREY HERBST interviewed at Erwinna, Penn~
sylvania. She advised she knew WHITTAKER CHAMBERS
as "CARL" in Washington, D. C., in 1934, meeting him
only then. on four or five occasions. She believed
he was involved in some kind of Communist activity.
She stated no photographic work done by "CHAMBERS
when she was preserit in Washington a apartment. She
advised she has never met AIGER or PRISCILLA HISS.
She stated it was impossible for fss to, have been
at her Erwinna home around Easter’, 1934 or 1935.
She advised she was very sympathetic to Communism
from 1932 to 1934.
