Rebulet to New York April 21, 1951, in which it was requested
that this office place a stop at the U. S. Penitentiary, Lewisburg, Pa., in
order that the Bureau might be informed of any transfer or release of the
subjects ALGER HISS.
HISS's file at. the Penitentiary was examined by SA LESLIE A.
HAUGEN, at which time it was neted that his sentence of five years began
en March 22, 1951. He will. be eligible for parole on Noveuiber el; 1952 and -
for conditional release on November 27, 1954.
Warden GEORGE W. HUMPHREY informed that they would be very
happy to place-a step in HISSts file in order that this Bureau might. be
advised concerning any transfer or release. He suggested that this be done
by an official letter from this office, which would then be placed in the file.
- In this manner the stop. wopild accompany the file in case of transfer.
An approp: “ate letter is. being sent to Warden HUMPHREY and the
Bureau and New York widl be advised of any action along this line.
