Deer Sir:- RE: UNKNOWN SUBJECTS; . va
John DORockefeller ~ Victim.
Extortion.
~ Reference is made to Bureau letters dated December 12th and
-23rd, 1935, (62-38875), directing me to get “in touch with the euthor
of letters to Mr. John’D. Rockefeller, rggerding accusations that he
was believed to be identical with JesseXJemes.
Attention Mis ‘first invited to my letter to the Bureau dated
December 11 71935, which fairly well established who the author of these a
letters wes. However, since the submission of the photostatic copies of: kte?-
letters received by Mr. Rockefel le: eng the Director, I heve caused two ie
boys nened Gaia gosss ar 7S wee Bto be located in Taeksonville wt
and brought for personal interview. 2
These two boys live in the outskirts of Jecksonville and come
of very poor families. They are high school students and from my inter- - -
view with them I am convinced that the writing of the letters in question
by the boys wes not nromted by eny ulterior motive. They readily edmitted
that they had written the letters in question; thet they had no idea what-.
soever of seeking any money or rewerd, but were prompted to teke this ace.
tion by reason of having seen photographs of John D. Rockefeller and Jease ;
Jemes in some publications which came to their attention and upon hi fare
seme it appeared to them thet there was a considereble likeness, and they”
thought it would be ood idea to check up on _ their "hunch",

admitted that he wrote the letter to the Director,
stated thet he wrote the letter to Mr. Rockefeller. The ane
typing on the envelope transmitting the letter to the Director, end the
typed names of these two boys appearing on the letter to Mr. Hoover, was
—_ oo placed thereon by using a typewriter in a local drug store where these
4 ' boys are employed on alternate shifts during Saturdays and other school
