well informed. about it, Nominating: Jetters must contain a full and
factual explination and justification for the nomination, They should
include the names of three other persons who know the candidate
and his wark intimitely, and who are both competent and willing
to support his candidacy upon inquiry by the Committee, All nom-
inators should know that the Committce on Selection reserves the
right to consult with respect to. particular nominations with leaders
in the Government (including the nominee’s agericy. head) te obtain
their opinions and other pertinent evidence.
Administration of the Program
The program is. administered as a national trust by the Woodraw
Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton Uni-
versity.
A Committee on Selection, made up. of prominent citizens, will
review nominations and will recommend. to the trustees of the Uni-
versity the nominee it considers best gualifed in each “area.” The
final awards will be made by the trustees of the University. The
Committee on Sclection is headed by Dr. L. V. Berkner, President
of Associated Universities, Inc. Other members of the Committee
are: Mr, Laird Bell, Attorney, Trustee of the University of Chicagoy
Mr. Emilio Collado, Treasurer of Standard Oil Company (New
Jersey); Mr. Philip L. Graham, President and Publisher of the
Washington Post; Dr. Joseph FE. McLean, former official of the
New Jersey State Government, Brookings Institution; Mr. Robere
D. Murphy, former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs,
and Career Ambassador, President, Corning Glass International; Dr.
Thomas Parran, former Surgeon-General of the United States, Presi-
dent, Avalon Foundation; Dr. Don K. Price, former United States
Government official, Dean, Graduate School of Public Administra-
tion, Harvard University; Professor Wallace S. Sayre, Department
of Government and Public Law, Columbia University; Dr. Ordway
Starnes, Associate Director, New Jersey Agriculture Experiment
Station, Rutgers University; Miss Anna Lord Strauss, former presi-
dent of the League of Women Voters of the United States,
Nominations for the first proup of awards should reach Princeton
prior to August 15, 1960. It is anticipated that an announcenient
of the awards will be made early in 1961.
