Mr. Franj’Coleman of the Civil Rights Section of the Department celled
at the Buream at the above time concerning the captioned case and was inter—
viewed by the writer. It eppeared that Coleman's primary purpose in calling
/ . at the Bureau was to discuss the following three points jn connection with
/ this case:
(1) Allegations recaitly made by the press that the Attorney
General was "sitting" on this case.
(2) To determine if the Bureau would photostat 125 exhibits b
submitted to the Department 3

(3) To ascertain wich persons would be interviewed at the outset
of this investigation, and to point out that certain ones should be
contacted as soon as possibile.
According to Kr. Colenan, approximately two weeks ago the Chicago Daily
News indicated that the Attorney Geral was furnished with all previous
information developed conceming the activities of John L. Lewis, and that
instead of taking any action, the Attorney General had been "s

tion is necessary to pogsibly develop a violation of the Civil Rights Statutes
on the part of Lewie. 4"
