Mr. RYDER ecnversed willingly without clearance from hie superiors in Washington. VEYER §. RYDER stated thet from hearsay he had learned thet the National Labor Relations Board Field Examiners, LEISERSON and WILLIAVS, hed investigated instant dispute about the time that the JForressive Mine Workers of smerica had filed a protest with the National Labor Relations Board that the "B" Mine had refused to bargain with the officials of their orranization. stated that he was extremely uncertein as to the time of this inves- tivation, but he fixed it at about the end of the long period during which the "B™ Mine did not cperate. Mr. RYDER stated that the next investigation he had rd about was that conducted during late 1940 and early 1941 by JAMES CQMCLARK, a Field Examiner working out of the Chicaro office of the National Labor Relations Board, RYDER advised thet he had heard from some source, presently unimeown, that CLARK had at that time just finished extensive investigations in Kentucky concerning United Mine Workers and Progressive Fine Workers disputes and that in these hentucky investigations CLARK had found the United Mine Workers justified in their claima. RYDBR further advised that because of these Kentucky investigations the Progressive Mine Workers were claiming bias on the part of CLARK because he would not report that UMW were using illegal methods in obtaining membership increases in Mine "B". RYDER fur- ther stated that he did not know if this PMY claim was correct, nor had CLARK ever indicated to him his (CLARK'S) personal epinion in the matter. MF.
