I always felt that when the new union wes formed, it was formed just to make new jobs for men. I dan't knox how the company men felt about either the UMy or Progressive, The management never said anything to me to induce me to belong to any union. Conditions scemed to be the same under the Progressives as under the U.N. They weren't any better and they weren't any worse. I never paid much attention to union activities and in [ict hardly ever attended any meetings. I have heard rumors about some Progressive mon being spies for the U.M.i. but do not know enything about these ron. q know Carter, Austin, George Jecaway and Enory Jacaway were supposed to be spies but I do not know any thing about their activities. I do not know anything about events leading up to the strike in 1937 and had no idea why a strike was called, we were | told the strike was called due to the fact an agreement coulh't be reached between the uhion and compeny about wages. "I was down in the pit when the mon started loading the cars short.
