"During this period between 1933 and 1937 all of the
fellows in tho PMA seemed satisfied. JI believed the PMA was doing good for
us thiners and at no time did I ever notice any attempts by the PMA to use
strong arm tactics of any kind to keep the men in line. There seemed to be
no friction between the PMA miners and ttc PMA officials, During this time
I attended many UMA meetings and I noticed no umusual nunber of special
assessments and we knew of no kickbacks to local’ PMA officiale.
"Betmeen 1933 and May 1937, thc UMM nevor picketed Mine "B" to ny

recall who these fellows were. During this tine I recall posing pamphlets
distributed at ine "B" telling the fellows to join UM.
"In oarly Spring of 1937 I recall no slaw dorms or work stoppages
and I noticed no actual violence and no one came to me to talk mo into
going over to ULV, altho I rzeall some fellows were contacted by UMA
sympathizers, but who was contacted - and who contacted them - I cantt

May 12, 1937, I went to work and noticed nothing unusual until I was
notified by a driver that there would be no more work for the day. T
cannot remember when I heard that somo of the fellow had been expelled from
the PMA. - —— -
“I cannot remember any coal cars being loaded short on Nay 12,

have signed it. It is just that I cannot remember. But I know J did not
sign any UMY petition. But I cannot remomber any ‘wildcat’ petition
having been circulatcd during the summer of 1937,
"After the UN local was formed in July 1937, I received by -
