"There were no strikes or close-downs that I know of between 1932
and 1937. Sometime in the lst part of May 1937 a group of men at the mine
while waiting to go down the shaft said several men had been expelled from
the P.M.A. for spying. No one approached we in any way to join U.M.".
At the end of that day we were called out on strike and I understood that
it Was because the mana;enent had refused to stop those men who had been
expelled from continuing to work in the wine. .

"In Sept. 1937 I read in the paper that Mine "B" was going to re-
open so I went to the mine to work and when the whistle blew for work only

about 13 mon started to work and they were U NY members do we began
picketing. I picketed at the nine for 56 days until an injunction was
served on us. Only Mine "B" :men picketed the mine then.
*T voted in the N L RB election in Dec. 1937 and P NA won by 404
- to 25. It was a fair electi-n as far as I could see. No violence of any
i kind occurrec at the election.
