He more or less evaded the direct question as to my reinstatement and in uy opinion the “rogressives didn't want me to get back in the wion or work at Mine B. "T drew up an appeal from this décision and mailed it to the National | Secretary, Mr. Neck, at Gillespie, but I never got an answer. I was going to fight the cusc, but made up my mond I would never join Progressive again aod in fact was qunte mad at rrosressives. I worked at WPA and odd jobs from 1934 to the fall of i940. "In the fall of 1949, I imew there was a little trouble at the ming & was told by some of the men that United was in majority * that I could probably get a job out ut Mine B. I called Falcetti anc asked him if I could have a job. He told me i could alvays have a job at Mine 8 and asked me if 'I had a card.! He knew that J had some trouble with progresSive and I suppose he was rcferring to that when he asked me about, it, I took it for granted that ne wanted to know if I could get a union: carc in United, “shen I wert out to the mne I was approached by Joe wlbancse who askcd me if ZT wanted to join United. Nobody told me to see Joe, but he wus on top near the tipple and asked me to join. It is ale most a matter of policy for all mincrs wiions to have a man on top whose job it is to see all rew nen and try to sign them up. I joincd the U.M.™. at that timc.
