NTERV IE WITH driver came along and said, *everybody outt, so we came
out of the mine. “e loaded the cars as usual anc I

a strike about money on wages. .

men who lived in had to stay on the picket line all week Long. The
men in Springf isid coyle ¢5 home once in a while, but we never had a chance

he said I had to stay on the picket line. Te never said anything about
what would happen if I left the picket line. I stayed on picket duty
until some time in December cf 1937 when the Marshal came with an injunction.

"IT belicvo I paid dues in the PMA until about July of 1940 and
a short time after that some nen came to my house and asked me to join the
U.M.n. I joined the United because I ficured the majority were joining
united and I didntt want to lose my job. wopody told me I would lose my
job, but I figured I wowle do like the rest to protect my job.
"T have worked in different mines as & member of both the PMA
and the UMY. I have never had any trouble with either union.
"To the best of my knowledge the strike at Mine P was called
by the men because the company wouldn't agree to 4 contract and wouldn't
give us cur back pay.
