"During summer of 1937_ I don't recall of anything unusual
hoopening at Mine B. I once heard something tho of some men from lfine B
caine over to the Jefferson “ine and also there was some talk once about
Elshoff being the owner or something of the Jefferson Mine. Turing fall of
1937 I went out to Mine B about a week after the picketing st:rted. T
never had heard they were saing to reopen. The men there were all local
PMA men and there were no strangers. J rent out of my om free will and I
went out because I heard that others were out there protecting their jobs.
IT heard that we never would hive vicketed the mine if those United Mine
“orkers had not stuirted over there at Mine B. JI came home about one night
a week or so ond then would co back out azcin and help them. Everything was
quiet and pecceful out there and there were no fi-hts. No UY tried to go to
work while I wis out there. I wis there when the inrshall came out and he
said we would hove to leave and he put some paper out but I never rend_it,.
All of us were willing to leave and we did and all were satisfied.

The Marshall came out between 9 and 10 y.m. and I ws the last one to leave
there sbout l a.m. When the Marshall ceme out I think that and
a committceman was out there. I never heard a thing about the mne UPying

armory in Springfield, Ili., at the first NLRB election and it was by secret
ballot and no one told me how to vote and first I met at_ hall and then
from the ahll went over and vated. Before we went over and voted we had
x meetine and the big president of the whole PRA genve us a talk and told
us to vote how we pleased and he did not tell us to vote Pid or any special
way. Io voted PMA and it wes a gxod and honest election and I heard that
Pia won that eleetion. I-don't recsll a thing about Mine B being reopened
a short time after the election of UM! mine.
