Only tine B were there. The purpose of the picket line
(contrmicee was to keep U.M.7;. men from working in Mine B.
"I voted in the election in Decembor 1937 at the State Armory. The
PKA, officials told me about the election but they did not tell me how to
vote. I voted for the P.M.A. because J was a member of that union, and
tceause most of the miners seemed to want that union in Mine B.
"Before I went back to work after the mine reopened in 1959, no
on. tried to get me to join the U.M.%. After I had started back to work
Bohannon came to my house one night with Frank Austin. They said that I
had beter sign up with U.M.N, because I could not win staying with P.M.A.
I told Bohannon thet I would think it over. They did not threaten me or
say that I would lose my job.
"An air inspector, bore Also talked to me about U.M.%.
Ts came to my room in “ine B. 3 told me that I had a good room, and that I
better join U.u.7. if I wanted to koep that room. I told him that I would
join U.M.1. when most of the minors did. He told mo to come to a U.M.N.
meeting. I went to the meeting, and sow a great many miners joining U.M.™.
s0 1 joincd U.N. too. I did this to stick with the majority of the mincrs.
I knev' that I would have to sign up with U,¢. J. to keep my job at Mine B.
I kmev IT could not get a job anyvhere else.
*I dontt romomber signing any petition for F.!.A. or any othor union.
Y heard that some mincrs vere beat up, and I saw two men who had been
beaten, but I don't kmow their namcs, Later ata nooting of the UM... union,
on Italian fellow tricd to say something at the meeting. Cudgc Baumgarner
told him to sit down, Aftcr the meeting in an alley I saw Cudge beat this
Italian fellow, I don't know his nome.

rooms and could not moke any money, and also bechuse 1 wanto
of the minc because my health was going bad.
