I know to be Scecial agents of the Fodcral Bureau of Investigation. I make
it without fear of threat, force or promise of any kind.
"J vas born in I presently
work at
__ “I first started working in coal mines in Sprineficid, I21., when
I was yeors old. I then joined the United Line Jorkers of America
Union. I only worked in the mines for about ears when I left to go
to school. I did not return to the mines until about 1936 when I went to
work in Sine “B" with my father, a I aprlied to join the
“rogressive Mine sorkers of America Union at that time and while they were
decid@inz they found out I was over 21 years of ago and could not work there~
fore as an apprentice under my father, and so they refused me membership in
FMA, As a result of this I could not work in wine "B" with my father. 1
had worked at Mine "B" for about two months before I had to leave.
"In the Spring of 1940 Joe Albanese and some other men whom I
cannot remember, except one was Lominic Fasquale, came to me at my home and
asked me if I wanted to work. I was not working and so I said yes. Joe
seid if I'd help him organize for UY¥ I would get a job in Mine "B” when
there was room. Joe, and others, said the ine "B" would not stay open
unless it would “ork under UM. I vas told to go eround to all the men
who were working at Mine "B" and get them to sign up with UMW. I was told
by Joe to tcll these men that the mine would not stay open unloss UM had .
the majority of the vote. I was to contact ali men hom 1 kmew, especially
the Italians. “¢ would travel together, that is I have been with Joo
Albanese, Dominic Pasquale, Tony Chapolus, whose name T cannot spell, and
sometimes PFowling Green Bohannon. I saw all of these men organize for OMY.
ve were able to get rather many of the men to sign UM.. I went to work in
line “B" in June or July of 1940. I was told by Joe Albanese and
