in pS I am not & citizen of the United Ctates. I am now employed at
Mince 'A' as e@ digger ond have been employed here since about fs I was
. wember of the United Mine Workers at this time and remnined 2 membor
until 193Z when the rest of the miners et Mine 'A' went over to the Pro~
gressive Miners Union. I was in fevor of the Frogressive Miners Union and
the switch over. myself then remained Progressive Miners as
long as we could. f thet this is a good union and that it conscien-
tiously tries to represent the mimers. I first heard about the sale of
Mine ‘A' | who read about it in the newspaper. I figured that
my job wes insecure and that I probably would not be able to go beck as a
member of the Progressive Miners Union.

"T heard the stories that Elshoff would not reopen the mine un-
less it wos under the United Kine Workers Union and that he was going to
hoist the coal from Mine 'A' out through Mine 'B!.
*T attended the sume meetings ct the Frorressive Halli and at the
United Mine Yiorkers Hall with and I held out
opeinst joining the United Mine riorkers as long as I could. Whenwe saw
that the majority had gone back, we finally signed up.
"T wish to acy that I went beck to Mine ‘At as a UMW member only
because the mijority did and to proserve my job. I cm not satisfied with
conditions in the UW cs you don't have a free vote or the right to dis-
cuss issues being put to a vote. These ore railronded through. if I had
my free choice I wuld be a member of the Progressive Mine Workers Union.
