Re is a person of average intelligence and would make an average witness. He gave information set forth in the following statement, which he refused to: sign: “Springfield, Ill. Ryan at the timc thet he sold the mine to Slshoff. J have never been interested in wion affairs, and have paid many fines for not attend- ing union meetings. Before Ryan sold the mine, there was not talk, as fer as I know, about changing unions. I do not know how the other men felt, because I never discussed the matter with them. I personally did not care which union I belonged to, at that time, as I was not interested in any of them. "I wont to the meeting ot tho Elk's Hall when the men voted to go into the Iitw. I do not remember what was said that day, or why it was that I joined the UM. then. I think I had decided to join the IW, but I do not remember why.
