Sometime in the early fall or late summr I got a letter from Ryan saying that he had sold Mine a to Elshoff, I heard that the mine tas going to be operated by united men. I wernt to a couple of the mectings held by progres- sive, but don't remember anything about what was saic those times about hor the mince was going to opcrate. J didn't go to any mécting at the U.E.W. hall and joined the Y.E.W, union just be- fore I started back at Mine «a in the fall of 1941. They told me I couldn't work unless I joined united. Nobody hit me and nobody forced me to join any mior, I do not know how Elshoff felt about the unions, "1 have read over this statement of 2 pages and it is true to the best of my memory.
