ACTION TAFE
SAC McSwain, Chicago Division, was furnished a summary of the information
obtained in the interview with reporter James Doherty and was requested to conduct °
immediate interviews with Porcara, Tenelli and Sczels. Mr. McSwain strongly
recomended against oontacting the Chicago Tribune for the purpose of obtaining
the files concerning thie matter which Doherty advised would be made available
in view of the reletionship existing between Colonel EcCormack and the Bureau. ~
Kr. McSwain was edvised to hold this contact in abeyance as it was believed that
tke files could *s obtained through Doherty without difficulty in view of his ~..
epparent cooperetiv- attitude. Mr. McSwain was advised of the necessity of vigorous
pressing this investigation and the necessity of having it handled either by himself
or ASAC Hosteny and an experienced Agent.

ACTION TO BE TAREN
It is noted that the indictments charging these subjects with a violation
of the Wail Fraud Statute were nol prossed, Southern District of Kew York, on
May 6, 1947. It is apparent that these subjects would probably not have been
econsidered for parole in view of these outstanding indictments, and the possibility
exists that pressure may have been exercised on behalf of these subjects in ob-
taining the nol pros of the indictments. Arrangements have been made with
i>. T. Ve Quinn, Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division, to bave the
Departmental files concerning the Mail Fraud case made available for examination.
ASAC Carl Hennrich, Washington Division is making arrangements to interview the
meanders of the Board of Parole and will review the Departmental files when available.
The investigation is being pressed vigorously by the Chicago and Kashington Field
Divisions and appropriate leads will be set out to the anxiliary offices as developed
for Jumediate Investigation.
