On October 10, 1947, WALTER THOMAS NOVAK was interviewed at 4017 West 65th toy

Relative to the bail bonds on behalf of the subjects in 1943, NOVAK stated a
that through general conversation he had received knowledge that CAMPAGNA
had to put wo a large bond. NOVAK stated he could not recall the individuals
who advised him of this, and he could not recall the place or the circumstances
umer which he first received this knowledge. He stated thet he visited the .: |.

BULGER. He contacted this attorney for the purpose of voluntarily and of 7 g° =
his own free will putting up some money to help CAMPACNA make bond. epon
contacting this attorney, he was told that CAMPAGNA's bond amounted to... - 074:
$100,000. He told this attorney ha would help in furnishing this money, “and, oe
to do this, NOVAK withdrew $25,000 from his own personal bank account, which . ”
was located in the Cicero State Bank, With this $25,000, he purchased a
eashier's check, which cashier's check may have been purchased at the argo
State Bank. However, NOVAK believes it was purchased at the Cicero State
on Bank, NOVAK said he could not recall who the payee was on this cashier's‘ ee
check. He stated he could not remember whether he actually turned over this on
check to Attorney BULGER or if he turned it over to the U. S. District ee Sen
Court, Ghicago, Illinois. He advised that he did get a receipt when he wher tne. any
surrendered his check, which receipt he held until the $25,000 was returned 9°17!
to him when CAMPAGNA'S bond was canec@llad. NUVAK stated he could not recall ~. a
who made out the receipt or who signed it. He stated that when he received os
the money back, he received it in the form of a check but he cannot recall
the maker of the check or who handed him the check.

Relative to this $25,000, NOVAK stated it was made up of his own funds and that |
when the money was returned to him, he did not turn it over to anyone else
but placed it in his safety deposit box, which was located at either the .
Cicero State Bank or the Argo State Bank.
