The following investiration was conducted by Special Agents

On October 9, 1947, JOHN T. [FMPSEY, Public Administretor of the
se gt ate of Tllinois, was interviewed at his office, 11 South LaSalle Street,
7. Room 324, Chicago, Illinois, DFMPLEY advised Agents that he had partici-
co" pated in’ no manner whatsoever with respect to the parole matter presently
under investigation by this office. He stated he was first aware of the
paroles after the publicity in the local newspapers. DIHMPSUY denied over
having been in Berrien Springs, Michiray or having ever been in the vicinity
of that part of Michigan, He claimed tho only time he had visited in the

ve received a telephone oall from Berrien Springs, Michigan, and he stated
there was no occasion for a telaphone call from Berrien Springs, Michigan
or vicinity or anywhere else in the Steie of Michigan in connection with
-- the above perole matter, He emphatically denied ever discussing the parole
— matter with anyone prior to the local newspapor publicity. He did admit,

ne. one HARRY ASH, parole advisor for CHARLUS GIOE, DEIPSEY stated that after
.t2'h. . ASH had testified before the Congressional Committee, ASH personally had
contgcted him an’ told him the details of the testimony given before the
Ck . Congressional Comnittee and assured DIMPSEY that everything was proper and
wet thet he .was guiltless. DEMPSEY stated he did not kmow in advance that
Con ' HARRY ASH was to be a parole advisor and that he had only learned about
this from the local newspapers.
