he following investigation was conducted by Special agents
* iis Boe.
On October 14, 1947, HARRY A. ASH telephonically contacted the Chicago
office and stated that he was back in Chicago after spending approximately
one week in Los Angeles, California. ASH suggested that he call at the .
wie Chicago Office and a meeting was arranged on October 16, 19447.
During the interview with ASH at this time, ASH stated that he had re-
signed as superintendent of the Crime Prevention Department of the State
of Illinois, October 7, 1947, and displayed a copy of the telegram which
he had sent to Governor GREEN of Illinois. ASH stated that his resignation
was not requested but that it was entirely voluntary.
ASH was asked about the alleged telephone call from a Mrs. DENNIS just prior
- to his leaving Chicago. ASH stated thal this telephone call was generally as
~ reported in his interview with Special Agents R. J. KELLOGG and FRODSRICK L.
RODERLCK.of the Los Angeles Office. He added that on Saturday, October l,
1947, he and his wife, with friends, were at the "Latin quarter," a night
club in Chicago, and, while at the "Latin Quarter," an unknown woman approached
him but did not identify herself. Ai] stated that he does not know the reason
for this telephone call except that it might be an effort to connect him with

=." + In connection with the letter written to the Parole Board 1 by ASH, stating
wm, . genegally that GIOE was capable of rehabilitation, ASH advised he had been
~f 1. asked by SIDNEY KORSHAK to prepare three originals of this letter and to
+ ' -pive.these originals to KORSHAK. ASH denied ever writing to GIOE while
at GIOE was incarcerated.
_ *. ASH was asked if he had suggested the name of LOUIS PELTON as a substitute
aa pare adviser for Subject GIOE and ASH emphatically denied he had sugrested
. PELTON's name to anyone. He stated he did not kmow how PELTON came into the
* - picture. ASH stated that Judge RUDOLFI] DESORT had signed the form "Statement
sy of Parole Adviser" but that he had not taken the form personally to Judse
'.. ° DESORT. ASH stated that this form had beentaken to the Judge by KORSHAK.
- -. ASH stated that his brother DAVID ASH, 2916 Lunt Avenue, owmer of the Gold
¢ Seal Novelty Company, wadison & Halsted Streets, Chicago, was formerly in
aa the business of distributing punch boards. and pinball machines. ASIi stated
~.- lat that DAVID distributed these items in Chicago prior to the time that Mayor
; _ KELLY clamped dom) on the use of punch boards and pinball machines. After
