MAHEU was informed of his right to an attorney and that Fe. he did not have to answer questions and that anything he did say could be used against in a court of lan. MAHEU stated that in connectiign with the eonfidential assignment for Central Inte]figence Agency (CIA) he had been in contact with SAMUEJACIANCANA and had received —.-:~.. valuable assiatance from GIANCANA, which, in turn, was furnished to CIA. MAHEU had reason to believe that GIANCANA may have disclosed information regarding the project and, in View of the sensitive nature of the pro- ject, he, MAHEU, decided to determine whether or not GIANCANA had actually. talked to unauthorized persons. He was aware that GIANCANA was very close in a romantic way with PHYLLIS MC GUIRE of the Mc Quire Sisters Trio. He gaid that if GIANCANA had disclosed this information regarding project to anyone, he would have disclosed it to PHYLLIS MC GUIRE. He said that he was also aware that in the fall of 1960 fhe relations between PHYLLIS MC GUIRE and GIANCANA were rained and that PHYLLIS was romantically involved with DANWOWA:, who was appearin.: at the Riviera Hotel in Las VegasS. He considered it ver, vital to deter- mine wnether or not GIANCANA was reliaole and decided to order an installation on DAN ROWAN's room in an effort to @etermine whefer or not GIANCANA had disclosed any infor- wation regarding the project to PHYLLIS MC GUIRE. RL MAHEU stated that this decision was his own and that GIANCANA had no knowledge that the installation was made.
