LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
In the "Los Angeles Times" of March 5, 1968, II-3,;
was an article reporting that John etor, Beverly Hills
businessman, had announced plans to hold a summer camp for
500 Watts youngsters in the San Bernardino Mountains this
Summer. He stated youths would be recruited from a Watts
organization called "young Men For Total Democracy" having
stays of one to two weeks during the summer. He also
announced he had purchased land on El Segundo Boulevard,
when community protests precluded him from building a youth
center at El Segundo Boulevard and Lou Dillon Avenue as
originally planned. Factor also commented upon the report
by the National Advisory Commission on civil disorders,
agreeing tnat 4t wasai'indictment of white people, and...
we have failed to really do anything ." Factor stated lack
of action by white people had ‘created Stokely Carmichael
and Rap Brown."
On December 26, 1962, John Factor was granted
a full pardon by the late President John F.
Kennedy relieving Factor from possible depor-
tation proceedings as an alien who had been
convicted in 1943 for mail fraud.
VENICE, CALIFORNIA
Venice is a section of Los Angeles immediately
adjacent to Santa Monica, California, which 41s policedby the
LAPD.
In the Santa Monica "Evening Outlook" newspaper
of March 11, 1968, Page 15, was an article reporting that the
West Area Welfare Planning Council was already making plans
for summer programs to "Keep Venice cool" during the summer.
