Some of the departing Jonestown residents expressed apprchension about LAYTON's presence inasmuch as he was an avowed temple member. Congressman RYAN then instructed that LAYTON be allowed to leave on the first plane. LAYTON was thereafter observed shaking hands with a grcup of spectators who had arrived at the airport, prior to boarding the plane. Because of fear of LAYTON's true intenticns, he had previously been searched prior to his shaking hands with spectators.
