A review of the records of this Bureau failed to
disclose that any investigation has been conducted by the FBI
Union. The American Student Union was estabhlisred at Columbus,
Ohio on December 2%, and December 29, 1935. It is an amalfa-
mation of two c-roups: The Student League for Industrial
Socialist Societies and the National. Students League which was
founded in 1932. In attendance at this convention were 427 -
delegates of which 362 had voting previleges. It was reported
that campus clubs and liberal groups sent 115 delerites while
the Communist themselves sent 141 delegates. Among the officers
elected was Joseph P. Lash, National Secretary. The second
annual convention of the American.Student Union was held in
Chicaro, Illinois on Decerber 28, 1936. The Union. reaffirmed
its adherence to the so-called Oxford Pledce commonly referred
to as the slacker's oath in which they pledred themselves to
refrain from bearing even in the defense of the United States
against invasion. Among the officers of the American Student
Union elected at this convention was Joseph P. Lash of New
York, National Secretary. The official -ublication of the
American Student Union was “The Student Advocate" published six
times a year at 112 Fast 19th Street, lw York City. Among the
officers for 1937 was Joseph ©. Lash, Associate Editor. It
appears that Joseph P. Lash vithored pamphlets such as "The
apparently collaborated with a James A. Wechsler in the latter

Convention at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, on
December 27, 1937. Among those elected was Joseph P. Lash,
National Secretary. The 1938 officers of the Student Advocate,
the official organ of. the American Student Union, listed Joseph

at the Fourth Annual Convention and the American Student Union
held on December 26, 1938. Apparently at. the Fourth Annual
Convention, Joseph P. Lash made efforts to clarify the position.
