By letters dated 7/3/68 and 7/8/68 Secret Service
forwarded to Bureau anonymous communications received by
Senator Edward Kennedy's Office which contained possible
threats. These two letters were discussed with Assistant
United States Attorney, Washington, D. C., who declined
prosecution stating that lettemarevague and as such de .
not constitute violation of Federal Extortion Statute. By
letter dated 7/16/68 Secret Service furnished communication
received by Ethel Kennedy which contained a possible threat
yegarding Sehator Kenedy. Secret Service believes letter
received by Ethel Kennedy was written by same person who wrote
the other two letters to Senator Kennedy. The FBI Laboratory
will compare the two letters received by Senator Kennedy's Office
with the letter received by Ethel Kennedy and the letter received
by Adlai Stevenson and advise Boston, Springfield and Washington
Field of results.
