Attorpey-at-Law
Kensas city, Missouri
June 17, 1933
Hon. homer S. Cunmings,
WASHINGTON
Esteemed Sir:-
The cold-blooded massacre of officers at the K.C. Union Station
this morning proves to my satisfaction that my prophecy, that martial -- wins
law would yet have to be resorted to to deal with American banditti,
is correct as set out in my letter of April 16th, Ther_are enough (. °- 7
outlaws hidden in the bi.ls of uklahoma to wipe out a town of 500 °°
inhabitants. . Ce
The press, however, must be censored if the best results are to :
be obteined, The public is becoming increasingly indignant over the way’
BN newspepers broadcast inform.tion thet aids desperadc s in making their
escape. For exemple: ne. .
1. A conversation among bandits was overheard in which their plen
to head for the Warsew Hills was obtained. Inmediately the press broadcast- ~ . _
ed thie information. Their confederates can easily inform the fugitives a
thet their destinetion is knorn and to change their route. .
2 Recently a detective was shot. A local newspaper furnished the -
informetion thet the death car was heavily nickel-plated vith an unusual
_Bumber of accessories which were nickle-pleted, Heing advised that the | a ,
description of their car was knom, they naturally removed the conspiou- .
ous accessories to avcid detection.
3. The papers this morning carried advance informetion that Nash |
was being brought to Kansas City as per clipping enclosed. What business ke
had the press to publish this item? This information was disseminated .
by the early morning editions for the benefit of desperadces before the -
underworld even had retired and in plenty of time, to round up local
killers.
wo
As long as newspapers are really accomplices of desperadcos in help- oS
ing them make their get away, no blame should attach to police officers |
for failure to "bring them in".
Sincerely,
(8) H. D. Kissenger
