Little Rock, drkanses, Telephone Number 4-2162 has been found fran the telepbcne i
directory to be that of the police depsrtnent at Little Rock. The above cali od
on June 16, 1935, at 2:54 p.m, - = © + from the telephone of Galatas at Hot ’
Springs, arkansas, ia very significant, being the fireat ¢all which can be ascer-
tained to have been made from his telephone after the arrest of Nash. His sub-
sequent actions in chartering anairplane and telling Mra. Nash thet her busband
was being taken to Joplin, Miescuri, indicates a probability that he secured in- |
formetion from the Little Rock Police as to the route the officers were taking
with the prisoner, since agents Smith and Lackey informed Little Rock Police
that yhey were going to Joplir, Missouri, Complete deteile of this are being
checE“to determine who at the Police Department, Little Rock, talked, end what
wes said.
' Lettera bave been sent to the St. Louis and Los angeles office, pursuant to un-
developed leada appearing from the data secured at Hot Springs, Arkansas, as above
quoted, Telephonic communication was bad with the Birmingham office relative to the
location of Pat Gardelle Sturney, and under date of July 16, 1055, a letter was re- |
ceived from the Birmingham office stating that Sturney has been located, and that a
surveillance ia teing maintained, in order to ascertain the whereabouts of Subject
Galatas. It was also stated in the letter from the Birmingham office that Sturney
ie regarded at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he is a student,
as a step-son, or ward, of Galatas. Further information relative to angles in the
Birmingham vicinity are contained in the letter from that office mentioned herein.
& letter bas been directed to the Chicag office requesting that investigation be
made at Telephone Hyle Park 9600jDel Prado Hotel], to which number it ie noted, |
Mrs, BE. B. Conner telephoned from Hot Springs on June 13, 1933. apparently the party
at the Chicago number is identical with the individual who wrote the letter mentioned
in the Kansaa City report dated July 15th, pace 5@.
For the information of all offices concerned the follosing is e report made by
by him of the shelle and bullets found at the scene of the slayings and in the dodies
and remved from the bodies of various deceased officers in this case:
“This letter-report pertains to the examinations of ballistic exhibits in-
volved in the Plaza Slayings of June 17th; this report has been delayed in order that
the results of certain gun exaninstions could be included, :
{he photographs you here illustrate evidence bullets and cartridge cases, found at —
the scehe of the crime and removed fram the bodies of the victims. The photographs
are pumbered and lettered as follows: Cartridge cases: 1 to 8 Bullets: 4 to 3.
4 set of these photographs has been furnished Chief of Detectives Higgins, and ran P
Dr. Souder of your bureau of Standards.
