Buren of Iubestigation wy Department of Justice Oklahoma City, Okla., July 29,1933. — Director, United States Bureau of Investigetion, Washington, D.C. ‘ _ Re;Obstruction of Justice Abbempt to liberate Frank Nash, Dear Sir: There have been held in Jail at Oklahoma City, some persons charged with Bank robbery at Black Rock, Ark., and efforts are being made to extradite then. Thia week, ty ypewrtitten letters were received here purporting to have . been written by Wilbur Underhill, Harve Bailey, Bob°prady, Ed©Davie and Jim OcClark, escapes f: the Lénsing prison and who sre suspects in the Kensas City massacre. These>trpenritten letters purport to be a confession by the signers that it was they who robbed the Black Hock bank, and that the men who are held in jail are innocent. Toe lettera were signed by Underhill, Bailey, Brady, Clark and ‘Davie in their own handwriting with the finger printe of seach opposite his signature, The finger prints and signatures have been checked and found to be genuine. ie have located a typewriter in Oklahoma City on which it is “believed the letters wore written and have made a fec-simile copy t§erof and ale had made 4& photostat copy of the criginal letter, both of which are enclosed herewith. It ie desired to have hir. Appell nake a comparison of the photosatat and of the typed copy made on the suspected machine for the purpose of determining if the two instruments were meade on the same machine. The original letter is not inmediate- ly available; but efforta will be made to procure it later. . If Mr.Appell ie satisfied that the photostet letter was written on the same machine aa the accompanying typed copy of same, kindly advise by wire, as we are Meintaining a 24 hour surveillance on the house where the latters are believed to have been written.
