Dear Hanson: I received Identification Order No. 1201, Richard Tallman Galatas with aliases as of August 1, 1935 in connection with the murder of Special Agent Raymond J. Caffrey et al on June 17, 1933 at Kansas City. ZI have, within the last three or four daya, made sone discreet inquiries among my underworld contacts bere. I find, of course, that Galatis ie a native of this section, and is quite well known here. I eam hopeful of securing his exact location with- in the next few days. Of course I don't know this but I believe it will happen. ’ If we could arrange e amall reward, strictly conditioned on information leading to his apprehension, it might stimulate the activities somewhat. Of course yoll understand that this ie merely a suggestion of mine, and I have not said a word about a reward to ny informants. Galatas has quite a few friends here and I doubt if it would be wiee for ue to communicate by telegraph or telephone about the matter. If I need to advise you by wire, I will say, “Order accepted as per advice of Auguet seventh”, and send it commercial rate to you personally. If I send you such a message I will have him or his "woman” located. I am writing this personally in long hand because it | must not leak. I have absolute confidence in my stenographers and yours, aut 1 don't want to teke any chances with it. If you wri te me about it, send in plain envelope stamped marked "Personal".
