AT OXFORD, MISs. Miss Elle Wright, Superintendent, Ozford High and Public Schools, _ searched her records as fer back as 1911, but could find only one Conner &s having been enrolled in either high or public (gremmr) echool seni that he ws Thomis Conner, Como, Mise. Ghe stated that she knows Thoms Conner and that he ie at present a reputable dentiat in Atlanta, Ga. Niss Wright stated that ehe Fecalled having a boy by the name of Eecar Conner in school, about 1910, before the present record system wes inaugurated, and that ehe is of the impression -_ that he was the son of Jack Conner, who was in the grocery business at Oxford about 25 years ago. Ghe stated that she knew nothing concerning the family, — but that Mr. fom Mord, College Hill Street, could probably tell Agent about Eecar, as he lived about three or four doors fran the Conners and wes somewhat intimate with then. Mr, J. 0. Ramey, College Street, atated that he recalls having known Jack Conner years age and thet when he first knew him he was living at a little Place called Tula, Miss., sbout ten miles fren Cxrford; that Jack Conner mrried ‘a aister of Rube Burrows, a noted bandit ana train robber; that the Burrowes - were from some place in Alabama; that Jeck Conner had a son by her, named Zecar, who tarned out to be a pretty bad character. He stated that after the death of his first wife, Jack married « wamin, name not recalled, fran Mater Valley or Tupelo, Miss., but that he did not live with her long and when they separated he married a woman {n Sumner, Miss., and moved there to live; that a ' few years after he moved there he was taken il] and died in a hospital in Memphis, Tenn.; that during the time when Jack was living with his second wife, Becar left Oxford and went to Memphis, Tenn., where it was reported thet he wes killed while bootlegging in Memphis. He stated that be does not recll. the relatives of Jack or the names of relatives of his first wife ent suggested that Agent contact Joe Powall, who lived in the Tule section about the same ~~ time that Jack and his first wife were living at that place, ; Joe Powell, Powell's Filling Station, stated ebout the same as did Mr. Ramey, but added that Jack Conner's initials were A. J. Conner, and that he had two children by Annie Eliza Burrows, his first wife; they were Escar B, Conner and &. J. Conner, Jr.; that the Connare moved to the town of Oxford about 21909, and Jack went into business in Oxford. He stated that he does not recall what became of Escar and A. J.,-Jr., but he hed heard that Escar had later moved \ to Memphis, Tenn., and was in the whiskey business on @ large scale ani got... ’ killed in @ gun fight. -He aleo etated that Jack Conner hed Ho relatives that be knew of, but that Annie Eliza Burrows, Jack's first wife, and the mother of Escer and A. J., Jr., has a niece and a nephew living at present by the mane of Mrs. Worth Qualt (nee Raymer Burrows}, Deley, Mies., and Lee Burrows, who ie somewhere in Texas, but the exact place is unknown. Mr. Powell sugested that Acgent-contact Mr. H. Ll. Tate. H. L. Tate, Tates Dyr Goods Store, stated in substance that when Jack Conner was living with his eecond wife, first name Nell, but least not recalled, Escar was living in Memphis, Tenn.; that on one occasion Escar came back to Oxford and visited his father. While at Oxford someone robbved Nell =-8-
