op On August 15, 1933, one Charles hank, of 405 Commercial
Bie Street, Danville, Illinois, called at the United States Marshel's
office at vanville, Illinois, and requested that Special Agent Allen
of this office call at his home, inasmuch as he was in posasssion of
valuable information.
Special Agent F. W. Allen gecordingly interviewed Charles
Shank, who stated thet in May, 1930 /he was confined to the Lucas
County Jail et Toledo, Ohio; that bis cellmates in that institution
were “Pretty Boy".Floyd and Natha ng; that he knew Floyd under the
name of Fr Mitchell; that about the middle part of June, 1933 he
met Floyd in front of the Palmer National Bank in the Square at Dan-
ville, lllinois; that et this time rloyd told him that he was just
passing through Danville on his way to St. Louis; that about the lat- vA
ter part of July, 1933 he again met Floyd in about the same place;
that this was sometime in the afternoon and thet Floyd told him that
he would call at his, Shank's, home in Danville at about nine o'clock
that evening in order thet he, Shank, could look over the engine in
hie Lincoln Sedan, which he had par::ed around the city. Shank alse
stated that he did not ask Floyd any questions; that he hae alwaye
called him Frank Mitchell; that as soon as he could get in touch with
Chief Freenan of the Danville, Tllinois Police Department, he notified
him that Floyd was expected to call at hie house at nine o'clock that
evening; that he waited for Floyd but that he did not appear. Shank
aleo atated that Floyd did not talk wary mich during the tims he was
confined in the County Jail at Toledo, Ohio, and that he was not in
possession of any information which would be of value in locating
Floyd.
Chief of Police George g. Freeman of Denville stated that
Shank told him about the same story; that they laid out all night
wilting for Floyd to put in hie appearance, but he failed to show up;
thet he believes thet Shank may have knom Floyd in the
