62-4949 DETAILS: The present report represents investigative activity on the part of Speesiel Agente J. M. O'Leary, @, H. Tracy, B. 4. Boucy, . ‘ G@ J. Sterr, H. EB. Andersen, RB. 4. Sinsel, L. W. arms, ani the writer. On the afternoon of August S, 1955 1t was learned through confidentiel informent thet the Buchalters hed remved two trunks froa their residence in the Majestic Apartments, New York City, Investige- tion at the Pennsylvania Reilroad Station, through the cooperetion of the Pennsylvanie Railroad Police Department, revealed that at one P.M, on dugust $, 1935 the Baggage Transfer Corporation brought two trunks to the station on checks #4~-11727-26, to be held for shipment for Mre. BR. Buchalter, Essex Junction, Vermont. The trunks aleo hed cards at- tached marked from Camp Allegro, Milton, Vt. It was ascertained thet one of these trunks was picked up by the Baggege Transfer Corporetion in response to a telephone sell received August 2, 1935 and wae secured from epartment S4, 760 West En4 Avenue, from a person named Moree. The request to pick up the second trunk eeme in et the same time as that with respect to the first trunk and same wes picked up from room 804, . Hotel Beacon, New York City, from a person named Moss. Surveillance Was mintained on these two trunks by Agente O'Leary end Starr, which resulted in learning that e perty of seven, which included Mr. and Mrs. Loule Buchelter end Mrs. ¥. Allen, took the 12:20 P.M. train for Escex | Junction, Vermont. agents boarded the seme train and traveled with =; the perty to Essex Junction, Vt. and upon their arrival et that point — et 6:19 A.M. it was noted that a party of seven entered an automobile which met them et the station. It was necessary for egents to get under cover immediately ae Essex Junction ie a emell station end any etrangersa would be very noticeable. Agents learned from the baggage agent at Essex Junction, Vt. that the car which had picked up the party at the station was from Camp Allegro, a camp for Jewish girle, located between Burlington and Milton, ¥t. While Agents O'Leary end Starr were et Essex Junction, ¥t. they vere directed to proceed to Lake Placid, New York end communicate with Chief of Police Canfield as the latter hed telephoned to the New York office etating thet he hed valuable information. Agent Sterr eonmunicated with Ceptain Charles Broedfield, New York State Troopers, Malone, New York, end by errangements with him agents were met at Ayseble Chasm by Sergeant Eing and Trooper Eleroth with an sutomobdile. Accompenied by the ebove named officera, agents went to Lake Placid, loceted Chief Canfield and were informed by him that he hed been notified on the previous night by Joe Williams, proprietor of *The Feen" and “The Barn”, two roadhouses near Lake Placid, that persons whom he identified as Galatas and Vivien Allen had been seen by him on the
