In order to establish whether any telephone galls had
veer made from the two telephone booths neer the washroom in the Robert
Treat Rotel, inquiry waa mace at the telephone company. Fhrough the
courtesy of A. J. Bittig of the Legal Department, New Jersey Bell Telse
phone Company, Newark, N.J., it was aseertained that there hed been but
two toll cells made between tro end five on the afternoon of August 7th.
The telephone booths in question earry mumbera Market 28-8627 and Market
R-6816. At 3:21 P.M, # cell was placed from Market 88627 to Stuyvesant
O~7571, Hew York City, end e call from Merket 2-8627 et 4:30 P.M. te —
Chelessa 53-7276.
Through the New York Telephone Company it was esteblished
that Stuyvesant 97571 is liated to H. M. Goldberg, 71 Kast Sth Street, .
Wew York City. fhe other call was not traced for the reeson that it -
does not appear to be related to this matter, i |
It should be noted that the Yellow Texicab Company hes
@ concession at the Robert Treat Hotel, Newark, N.J. end accordingly
1t wee deemed efvisable to have the photogreph of Vivien Allen exhibited
to werious drivers to determine whether she hed left the hotel in a teziue
cab on the afternoon of August fth. Through the courtesy of C. Le
Sinnott, superintendent of the cab company, Mre. Allen's photogreph
wae exhibited to ell of the text drivers who were in the vicinity of the
Robert Treat hotel on the afternoon in question. However, none were able
to tdentify the photograph, mor did anyone recollect having hauled Mre.
Alien or her caompenion fron the botel or at any other tine, 3
Inquiries were nade at the Riviera Hotel, Newark, ¥.J.
and @ oheck was made of all registretions for August 7th end Sth, 1935,
the records having been made aveileble by George R. Anderson, manager,
but it waa learned that the records failed to reveal a registration under
any Bane which might be connected with the persons involved in this esse. -
Following the departure of the Buchalter party and
agents from Atlantic City, inquiry wae made at the Postal and Western
Union Telegreph offices, Atlantic City, K.J. in en effort to determine
whether any telegrephic money transfoere hed been received by any of the
oceupents of rooms 1519-1520 et the Ritz Carlton Hotel, end in perticnler
Mre. ¥. Allen. The recoris et both offices failed to disclose date to
that effect. ,
- Additional inquiry wes likewiae had at the telephone
eompany, where e check of telephones 4-9729, 5S=9818, and 4-9926 were
made to determine whether any long dietance ceile bad emanated from
any of the aforementioned pleces, it being noted that these three
telephones were located in the lobby of the hotel and there wee some
indication thet Mr. Louis Buchalter hed walked in the vicinity of these
