AT HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA:
P. J. Franklin, Homestead, stated that on June twelfth -
and June 14, 1933, @ party whose name he could not recall, called him
by long distance telephone from Kansas City, Missouri, advising him
that he was an operator; that he asked thie party what kind of an
operator he was and the party replied: *I want you to place $500 on a
race and if you win send me $250°; that the party further informed
him thet if he did not belteve the deal was on the square he wuld let
him bisten in shile the rece was being run; that he informed this
party that he did not do business that wey and not to call him again.
He stated that he does not kmow anyone by the name of FB. M. Goldman.
Doc Slagle, Chief of Police, Homestead, advised the
writer that P. J. Franklin was one of the leading business men of
Homestead and operated a grocery store for many years; thet he was
a highly respected citizen and to his knowledge conducted himself
properly at all times.
