Director, .
Division of Inveatigation,
U. S. Department of Justice,
Washington, D. C. RECORDED
Dear Sir: SEP 26 1933 DIDEXED
Reference is made to your letter of September 15, 1933,
in connection with the case entitled VERNON C.cMILLER, with
aliases, Fugitive - I. 6, 1195, et al, Obstruction of Justice, |
Endeavor to Deliver Federal Prisoner Frank Nash, with particu-
lar regard to previous contacts had with one Charles s. phank
of Danville, Illinois, ;
Charlee Shank has been interviewed by Special agente F. |
W. Allen, H. G Maynor and F. ¥. Yearsley, and each of these
agents has endeavored to impress upon Mr. Shank the fact that
he should communicate any and all information to the St. Louis
office of this Division. He has been furnished with the ad-
dress of thie office, and has promised each of the agents who
contacted him that he will immediately report any additional
information concerning Cherles Floyd direct to this office by
telephone or telegran.
In the light of a letter which Mr. Shank directed to the
Division under date of September 11, 1935, it is very obvious
that his main purpose is to attempt to obtein employment, it
being noted particularly that he has advised each of the agents
who have contacted him thet he has been out of euployment for
the past two years, and his letter of September lith to the
Division indicates thet he is therein applying for either
temporary or permanent employment.
With respect to the penultimate paragraph of your letter,
I Gesire to advise, as above stated, that although it ie ap-
parent that he is attemptiig to secure anployment, thia office
bas taken all possible steps to enlist his cooperation, and to
insure hie reporting any information concerning Floyd direct
to the St. Louis office of the Division.
I have thie date directed «a letter to Mr. Shank at Dane
ville, as instructed in your letter, and have furnished hin
again with the proper telephone and telegraph address of this
office, requesting bis assistance. ;
Very truly y
,
